Pistol designed for active self-defence and chambered for 9 mm PA traumatic round with a rubber bullet. The injurious action is caused by a pain shock at hitting with a rubber ball of 10.2 mm diameter and weight of 0.7 grams. The effective range is up to 7 meters. Original design of the barrel bore excludes possibility of shooting the combat rounds. While trying to fire the powerful rounds the barrel deformation and sample destruction occur.

New IZH-78-9Т pistol preserves the unique features of prototype: slim profile, absence of protruding elements and DA trigger mechanism. Steel frame, slide and parts of firing mechanism heavily loaded in shooting make the pistol durable and extend its service life.
